Houston Grand Opera’s summer program, HGOco, is offering free virtual workshops and performances for students during the COVID-19 pandemic. The program, which aims to provide music education and performance opportunities to young people, has shifted to an online format to accommodate social distancing guidelines.
“Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, we remain committed to providing music education and performance experiences to students in our community,” said HGOco director Carleen Graham. “We are excited to offer these virtual workshops and performances to young people who may not have access to music education otherwise.”
The program includes workshops on storytelling through music, creating a mini-opera, and exploring various vocal styles. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in virtual performances and receive feedback from professional singers and musicians.
“We believe that music has the power to inspire and entertain, even in difficult times like these,” said Graham. “We are thrilled to be able to continue our mission of providing music education and performance opportunities to students in Houston and beyond.”
The virtual workshops and performances are open to students of all ages and musical backgrounds. Interested participants can visit the HGO website for more information on how to get involved.
